Ahmed Sir’s Corner

Mr. Syed Ahmed is one of the founder members of Day Star School and a life-member of the Governing Board of the Lady Willingdon Hospital and Day Star School Society.

He worked as an administrator (1983-2003) in the Lady Willingdon Hospital. He was associated with the hospital in an advisory capacity as Financial Consultant, and as Advisor for School Academics to DSS till 2006.

During this period, he contributed towards the development of the Hospital and the School. He played an active role in different official committees of the LWH & DSS Society. He also taught Medical Laboratory and Blood Banking Techniques to many fresh technicians at the Hospital. He imparted the basic professional knowledge and skills of Book-Keeping and Accountancy and Handling-of Cash to several employees.

He mentored several employees of both institutions to excel in their profession and grow to the leadership level in the Society. He has been shaping the lives of many young students and offered guidance in choosing a right career/profession. He was instrumental in developing the academic programme for teaching of Mathematics to the middle and high school. Currently, he is contributing to the School as an academic advisor to the core committee.

As far as   personal education is concerned, he says that, he has had but a broad

* Lateral Education * by work-experience rather than a *regular Higher Education*.

The reason:  after passing Std XII in Bombay, he wanted to start working.   One year was wasted in this process of working.  Next year he was pressurized to seek admission to a Technical institute, the VJTI, Bombay. He has therefore, a Licentiate of Technical & Applied Chemistry.

Next, while working in a Pathology laboratory, in Poona he pursued a B.Sc., studying part-time Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

He worked in Beirut, Lebanon in a Race Course Laboratory; testing the blood of race horses for performance – enhancing drugs.

He worked at the National blood Transfusion Center, Liverpool, UK and has appeared for their examinations in Medical laboratory Sciences.

He has a Certificate of Proficiency (First Class) in Persian language and Literature; and has done a BA( English literature), First Division from IGNOU at the age of 52.

Languages known (in order of efficiency): Persian, English, Urdu, Hindi, and struggling with Punjabi.

Languages which his ear can understand:  Gujarati & Marathi
